Ever wanted to read the ENTIRE bible? Tried and got
distracted?
Confused? Couldn't find the time? Join us
this year as we READ the ENTIRE bible in a year. We have developed
a day-by-day outline that will help you stay on track -Just a
few chapters a day.
& U DON'T HAVE TO
DO IT ALONE!!
We are available to answer any questions about your
reading. Just email us at
info@douglaschapel.org.
We will try to respond with 24 hours
(so you stay on track!)
To get the most out of your reading, we
recommend the following:
1) BIBLE: Find a version of the
bible you are comfortable with. The focus is just to read the
bible like a good novel. Easy to read versions include New
International Version,
Contemporary English, Amplified Version, etc. Also, bibles with
commentaries may help with understanding (but remember the focus is
READING, not studying).
2) RESOURCES: a small notebook
(to jot down questions), and a bible dictionary (a
simple student version is sufficient) to help with definitions and
pronunciations.
3) TIME: Decide on a devotional
time that works into your schedule - may be early morning, lunch
time (eating and reading the bible - YUMMY!), bath time, or evening.
4) PRAY FOR UNDERSTANDING:
You MAY NOT understand everything you read
the FIRST time
you read it, and that's okay. The Holy Spirit will bring
understanding to when you NEED it.
5) DON'T GIVE UP!! If you miss a
day or two (and you probably will), it's OKAY. Don't beat yourself
up. Work those missed days into your schedule simply by adding a chapter
to your schedule, or better yet, just start where you left off.
The goal is the read the ENTIRE bible - if not in one year, then maybe a
year and a half.
6) YES, THERE'S A PURPOSE TO ALL OF THAT
"STUFF" - So when you get to the book of Numbers (which
is all about numbers), or the book of Chronicles (which is talks
about the ORDER of things) or the beginning of Matthew (who begat
who), and you are thinking "WHAT???????".
Just remember - everything
and everyone in the bible had a purpose (or God wouldn't put it there).
HAVE FUN!! &
GOOD LUCK!!
